Charles L. Phillips/89, U.S. Army Veteran, Retired CPD, Retired Owner of Phillips Restaurant. Beloved husband of the late Carolyn Summers Phillps. Loving father of Edward (Lupe) Phillips, Thomas (Deana) Mezera, and Lia (Pete) Goyer. Brother of Kathleen (EJ) Booda, the late Bill (Marianne) Phillips, and the late Phyllis (Dan) Mezera. Dear Grandfather of Gabrielle, Sydney and Fiona Goyer, Jake, Jack, Jessie Mezera, Maddie (Alec) Brown, and Kyle & Colin Phillips. Great Grandfather of Parker & Alaina Brown. Dear Uncle of many. Brother-in-law to Marge (the late Pat) Stack, Pat (the late Marco) Damico, the late Bernard Volk, the late Rita (Art) Charette, the late Edward Summers, and the late Florence (Stanley) Malnarick.
Additionally, Chuck leaves behind a wide circle of extended family members, friends, neighbors and loved ones, whose lives were enriched by his presence and whose hearts are heavy with his passing. Towards the end of his life, he was taken great care of by his caregivers, Jerry and Dan. They fed him delicious meals and made his last days on Earth so wonderful and peaceful at home.
Chuck enjoyed long trips in his car, his search for the best Shrimp Diavalo (our rating in this order: Connie's, Franco's, Gio's), a Bloody Mary, watching his grandkids play sports, warm weather, sunshine, Miller Beach, his pool, and a good laugh. He read every book that was ever written about World War II.
We will miss his huge heart, his laugh, sense of humor and his perspective from which he saw the world. Chuck is leaving behind a legacy of warmth, wisdom and endless cherished memories.

Visitation, Friday, January 30, 2026 9:30 am until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Gabriel Church, 600 West 45th Street, Chicago. Cremation has taken place in accordance with his wishes. Inurnment at a later date at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Worth, IL.
