Charles Elvin Pope

Charles Elvin Pope Jr. 77, husband of Carolyn Sue Minor Pope, departed from this world on Sunday January 7, 2024, at The Willows on Citation in Lexington, KY.
He was born in Pennington Gap, VA to the late Charles Pope and Glussie Tomlinson Pope. Charles was a retired Medical Technologist at Nicholas County Hospital, having worked there for over 40 years. He is notably remembered for his phlebotomy skills and kindness with everyone he encountered. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Paris, KY and served many years as a Deacon. He loved serving the Lord through outreach ministries and would visit those who were shut in. Charles was an avid UK Basketball and Rolling Stones fan. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four children, Charles Patrick Pope (Vivian Torres), Timothy Andrew (Christy) Pope, Nick Pope, and Favia Carol Sapp; sixteen grandchildren, Lora (Jessie) Goodan, Aaron Pope, Jesse (Greg) Slayden, Amanda (Ben) Link, Elizabeth (Dakota) Mitchell, Audrey (Cooper) Swiney, Lydia Pope, Charlie Pope, Mary Pope, Hannah (Jacob) Thornton, Caleb (Maddie) Pope, Dalton (Delaney) Pope, Rylee Pope, Brandon Chase Sapp, Griffin Charles Sapp, and Olivia Caroline Sapp; eight great grandchildren, Chance Goodan, Owen Link, Hannah Link, Nora Mitchell, Dax Mitchell, Mia Swiney, Cole Swiney, and Baker Thorton; one brother, Terry Keith (Diana) Pope; one sister, Roberta (Jimmy) Smallwood; Three special friends, Pam Ritchie, Dixie Norton, and Debbie Sorrell and several nieces, nephews, cousins and countless other friends.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Nicholas Pope.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday January 10, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, 919 Pleasant St., Paris, KY by Rev. Dr. Kyle Sullivan and Rev. Dr. Mack Shults.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM Wednesday January 10, 2024, until the hour of service at the church.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 AM Thursday January 11, 2024, at the Cecil-Fry Cemetery, Pennington Gap, VA by Paul Davis, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Pope, Nick Pope, Aaron Pope, Caleb Pope, Dalton Pope, Brandon Sapp, Charlie Pope, Jessie Goodan and Bryan Sapp.
Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy Pope, Griffin Sapp and the Deacons from First Baptist Church.
