Charles L. Roby, 89, of Knottsville passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of W. Kentucky. The Daviess County native was born October 31, 1936, to the late Hobert and Bernadette Speaks Roby. Charles graduated from St. William High School with the class of 1955. He served in the U.S. Army achieving the rank of Sgt. First Class and then in the Army Reserves for 11 years during the Cuban Missile Crisis. During this time, Charles received his B.S. degree from Brescia College in Biology and eventually his master’s degree and Rank I from Western Kentucky University in Education. He was a biology teacher at Daviess County High School for 37 years before retiring in June of 1993. Charles was very devoted to his faith teaching CCD classes and making rosaries, teaching others to make them for missions. His hobbies included being a ham radio operator, wood carving, and raising Boer goats. Charles enjoyed the outdoors, wildlife, and growing different kinds of plants.
In addition to his parents, Charles was also preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Joseph Cyril Roby and his sisters, Mary (Woody) Scott, Frances (Junior) Ballard, and Catherine Mudd.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of almost 60 years, Olivia “Ann” Roby; son, Dr. Steven Roby and wife Haley; two grandsons, Asher and Brooks Roby; in-laws, Eileen Roby and Ralph Mudd; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Thursday, January 22 at St. William Catholic Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 until 6:30 pm with prayers at 6:00 pm and Thursday from 9:30 until 10:30 am at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in St. William Cemetery.
