Charles M. Scollan

Charles M. "Chuck" Scollan, 80, of Glastonbury, passed away at Hartford Hospital on Saturday November 30th after a long struggle with respiratory disease. The third of seven children of Cornelius and Elizabeth (Geelan) Scollan, Chuck grew up with his family in East Hartford, graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Hartford in 1962, after which he joined the Air Force and proudly served in the Air Police Canine Unit charged with securing and guarding the B-52 SAC bombers on around-the-clock readiness alert during the Cold War. Following military service, he worked a number of jobs requiring skills in the building trades, the most notable being physical plant manager for Easter Seals Outdoor Educational Center, a rural building complex with facilities and summer cabins modified for disabled children on a sprawling campus in Hebron. He took great pride in his work there and was fully engaged in the agency's mission of giving these children an exciting and memorable summer experience. At that time, he built his A-frame home on Amston Lake. In later years he was employed at Colonial Village Apartments in Glastonbury as the supervisor of the repair and maintenance for building and grounds. His employer and tenants held him in high regard for his kind and friendly manner, work ethic and thoroughness in every job assigned. Chuck was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Raymond, Thomas and Michael; and leaves behind brothers Neil, Paul and sister Betsy, and several nieces and nephews. His great abiding interest was in building and landscape method and design. A lifelong Catholic, he attended St. Dunstan's Church in East Glastonbury until his physical disability made attendance unfeasible.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December, 2024 at 10:00am in Saint Paul Church of SS. Isidore and Maria Parish, 2477 Main Street, Glastonbury. Burial to follow in Saint Mary Cemetery, 930 Burnside Ave., East Hartford. There will be no calling hours.
