Charles Shults Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilson Mortuary - Salem on Dec. 15, 2025.
Charlie, the son of Buford and Phoebe (Posten) Shults, grew up in Dry Fork. He graduated in 1951 from Salem High School. On November 19, 1952, Charlie enlisted into the United States Air Force and served his country faithfully and honorably for four years.

On March 13, 1959, Charlie was united in marriage to the love of his life, Pauline Major. They shared sixty-six years together creating a family built on faith, commitment, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Charlie and Pauline were blessed to share two children: Paula and Kevin.

Charlie was a devoted family man and dedicated worker, always greeting others with a friendly smile. He worked at the Salem Post Office from 1967 until retiring in 1998 after thirty-one years of commitment. Prior to the postal service, he worked at the International Shoe Factory for several years.

Charlie enjoyed the great outdoors. He loved to fish and often went trout fishing at Montauk. Spending time in the woods deer and turkey hunting was something he looked forward too. Charlie also enjoyed traveling and camping. In his younger years, he liked playing baseball and softball.

Above all his faith and family were most important to him. His two grandchildren were his pride and joy. He never met a stranger and was always helping others. Charlie was a member of Salem First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. His servant's heart was evident by all who knew him and his life was a witness to his strong faith and commitment to the Lord.

Charlie is survived by his wife: Pauline Shults of Salem, MO; daughter: Paula Major of Illinois; son: Kevin Shults and wife Cheryl of Columbia, MO; grandchildren; Brandon Shults and fiancé Bridgette Welsh of Columbia, MO and Erin Shults and Luke Parker of Columbia, MO; nephews: Michael Thompson and wife Rhonda of Salem, MO, Howard Thompson and wife Debbie of Perry, MO, Garry Lunn and wife Susan of Sullivan, MO, Michael Lunn and wife Sarah of Ozark, MO, and Brad Lunn and wife Stephanie of Florida; extended family and dear friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents: Buford and Phoebe (Posten) Shults; and his sister: Arlene Lunn.

Charlie was truly kindhearted and genuinely never saw wrong in others. His life was a testament to service, family, and faith. His strength, humility, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.

Funeral Services were held December 18, 2025, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor David Hancock officiating. Serving as Pallbearers were Michael Thompson, Howard Thompson, Gary Lunn, Michael Lunn, Brad Lunn, Mike Johnson, and Nick Johnson. Burial with Military Honors was in the Dry Fork Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary.
