Charles Sides Obituary

Charles Sides
March 19, 1947 - August 31, 2021
Fort Mill, South Carolina - Charles Ray Sides, 74, of Fort Mill, SC passed away August 31st at Atrium Medical Center as the result of an accident. Charles was born March 19, 1947 to Raymond and Evelyn Sides of Concord, NC. After graduating from Concord High School in 1965, Charles earned a Bachelor of Science degree from UNC-Charlotte. While serving in the United States Army, Charles married his high school sweetheart, Martha Campbell, also from Concord. Charles and Martha celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2019. Charles was employed by the former Riegel/Rexham Packaging Corporation for 31 years and finished his career as CFO of DoubleRadius, Inc. Charles and Martha were blessed with 4 children: Anna Dobbins (Clint) of New London, NC; Rob Sides of Knoxville, TN; Matthew Sides (Kelly) of Lake Wylie, SC; and Will Sides (Jessa) of Indian Land, SC. Quite the sportsman, Charles enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing with all of his grandchildren. He was very active in all of his children's sports. He once said to his wife as they watched their first grandchild at play, "I didn't know you get to do it all over again!" "Bacca," as he was called by his grandchildren, delighted in each of them: Bella and Chase Dobbins; Sawyer, Charlie, Savannah, Haley, Scarlett, and Rebel Sides. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Harold Wesley Sides (Hal), from Lexington, SC. The family would appreciate memorials sent to the Fort Mill Rescue Squad, St. John's United Methodist Church, Wounded Warriors, or organization of the donor's choice.
The funeral service for Charles will be held on Saturday, September 4th at 11:00 am at St. John's United Methodist Church, 130 Tom Hall Street, Fort Mill, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall from 9:30-10:45am. Friends are welcome to join the family at 3:00pm for the interment at Oakwood Cemetery, 471 Church Street N., Concord, NC. Wilkinson Funeral Home in Concord, NC is handling the arrangements.

Charles, or "Bacca", will be remembered as one of the best men I have known. His love for his family was evident in the way he doted on them - especially his grandchildren. He was the type of grandfather that would spend hours holding babies, playing with them, teaching them games or life skills. He showered them with hugs and kisses and made them feel special and loved. He was a strong man, always willing to lend a helping hand when needed, but also there to offer a hug and soft words when life was hard. When I met Martha and Charles, they immediately made me feel welcome and like part of their family. And I think that is how they are with everyone. They are such an incredible, loving family. And they extended that kindness and love to my husband and daughter. We will miss Charles´ warm laugh and that mischievous twinkle that was always in his eyes. I know he and my dad are in heaven now joking around and probably getting into some mischief together. The Sides family lost a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, but gained another guardian angel to look out for them from heaven.
