Charles Edward Smith

Charles Edward Smith, 82, resident of Ninety Six, loving husband of Myra Best Smith, passed

away Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, South Carolina.

Born in Mesic, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Bonnie Carroll and Lena Ives Smith. He graduated from Bayboro High School in Bayboro, NC and Trident Technical College in Charleston. He was a US Navy Veteran of the Vietnam Era and served at the Charleston Navy Yard.

Following his retirement from the Charleston Naval Shipyard and a stint as a private consultant for numerous shipyards worldwide, he and Myra made their home in Ninety Six, South Carolina.

In addition to his wife, Myra, to whom he was married for 58 years, are a son, John Douglas (Ella Trec) Smith of Hensonville, NY; a former daughter-in-law, Cathy Stefans of Winter Haven, FL; a brother, David Thomas (Joan) Smith of Immanence, MO; two grandchildren, Kyle Robert Chandler and Sabrina Smith; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, April 2nd , from the Chapel of Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Johnny McDaniel, Chuck Sprouse and Michael How officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service and will be at the home in Ninety Six at all other times.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, VA Regional Office, 6437 Garners Ferry Road, Suite 1129, Columbia, SC 29209, or Connie Maxwell Children's Home, 810 Maxwell Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.
