Charles D. Sparks, age 87, of Effingham, Illinois, and formerly of Wheeler, Illinois, passed away at 9:10 PM - Friday, June 2, 2023, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM - Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Burial will be in the Trexler Cemetery in rural Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM - Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the funeral home. The obituary can be viewed, and condolences left at www.meyerfh.com.
Charles was born December 29, 1935, in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Charles M. and Bessie (Bryan) Sparks. On June 29, 1957, he was united in marriage to Beverly J. Johnson, and she preceded him in death on July 20, 2008.
Charles retired from St. Thomas Catholic Church and School in Newton after 10 years of service. He worked at Fedders in Effingham for more than 30 years and was also a farmer. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Charles is survived by three sons, Randy Sparks of Effingham, Illinois; Rodney Sparks of Effingham, Illinois; and Ricky (Kathy) Sparks of Robinson, Illinois
Sister - Marilyn (Gale) Brown of St. Elmo, Illinois
Grandchildren Dana (Michael) Poston and Wade Sparks, of Robinson, Illinois; Matthew (Kristi) Sparks of Effingham, Illinois; Katie (Jaden) Widdersheim of Strasburg, Illinois; Lucas Sparks (special friend Destiny) of Jacksonville, Alabama; and Wyatt Sparks (special friend Teagan) of Mason, Illinois. Several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special caregiver Lucy Stutzman, also survive.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beverly, brothers Gene Sparks and Richard Sparks, sisters Norma Bailey, Agnes Biddle, Shirley N. Holt, and Linda Butler.
In loving memory of Charles, memorials may be made to the Parkinson Foundation.
