C. Gordon Spoelstra was born and lived most of his life in New Jersey. An engineer who earned bachelor and master degrees at Stevens Institute of Technology, he spent the majority of his career at the helm of the family heating and air conditioning business, Spoelstra, Inc. which he ran with his cousins. Outside of work, the helm he most enjoyed-- a deep love and passion--was at the wheel of his sailboat, The Wings of Dawn. Gordon and his wife MariAnn spent countless hours sailing in Barnegat Bay, and he spent even more hours pouring over sailing magazines and charts, "tinkering" on, fixing, or building things for his boats. In addition to boating, Gordon also enjoyed skiing and shared a love of adventure with his family in the mountains of Colorado. He also had a love for music and worship. He was a follower of Christ, attending, serving and leading in various capacities at Cornerstone Christian Church (Wyckoff Baptist Church) for over 40 years, Grace Baptist Church in Franklin Lakes, NJ and, recently, Williamsburg Chapel in Williamsburg, VA.
Gordon and his wife, MariAnn, were married for over 58 years and have two sons and four grandsons. Immediate family members include son Charles Jr, grandsons Leif and Owen; and son Jonathan (wife Susan), grandsons Andrew and Samuel.
In lieu of flowers, please join the family at a memorial service at Cornerstone Christian Church at 3:00pm on June 1, 2025 To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Charles, please visit our floral store.
