Charles Hiram Stam (1946-2024)
Charley was a friend to everyone; he walked a life of forgiveness and grace. He did not hold a grudge and strived for peace. He loved the rodeo and all thing outdoors, but most importantly he loved his family! He always had places to go and memories to make until the very end. Nothing made him happier than being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Charley was born in
Enid, Oklahoma to George Conrad Stam and Chloe (Dougherty) Stam on December 30, 1946. He was followed a few years later by Nelda Ann Goss in 1950. The Family of 4 lived in the Garber, Oklahoma area until Charley and Ann went off to college. Charley attended Oklahoma State University but did not complete his degree.
While following his rodeo dreams in Colorado Charley met and shortly thereafter wed Shirley Parcels during their short marriage, they brought into the world two children Tyler Stam in 1978 and Tara Stam in 1979.
In 1986 Charley met and fell in love with Kathy Sue Kay in Garber Oklahoma. They were married on August 1, 1989. Charley gained 3 bonus children with their union, Lorri, Scott, and Mindy. Kathy and Charley worked hard and played harder as they traveled the US doing a variety of construction and pipeline jobs. Charley made many lasting friendships during these years on the road. In 1990 their work took them to Wyoming where they fell in love with both the views and the people. They renewed their vows on August 1, 2014, and bought a little piece of heaven to make a home in Boulder Wyoming, where all their children and grandchildren loved to visit. Charley and Kathy loved sharing Wyoming with anyone and everyone that would visit. If you loved riding horses Charley would take you on a trail ride and camping trip deep into the mountains. In 2021 they made the tough decision to move home to Oklahoma to be closer to family and proceeded to downsize and eventually sell their home in Wyoming.
Charley will always be remembered for his ability to fix just about anything and was the person his children would call anytime they had a question. His advice and wisdom will be greatly missed by many. He was an amazing example of what a Man, Husband, Father, and a Friend should look like. Charley was a quiet man of God; he did not loudly proclaim his faith but showed it in the way he treated others and loved his family. His memory will live on the hearts of all those who loved Him, and we rest in the peace of knowing he is with Jesus in heaven.
Charley passed away on April 3, 2024, after a short but tough battle with cancer.
Charley was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister Nelda Ann Goss of Broken Arrow OK, Wife Kathy Sue Stam of Hennessey OK; Children: Tyler (Misty) Stam of Fort Worth TX.; Tara Stam of
