Charles "Charley" Alvin Stark

On August 6, 2025, surrounded by family, Charles "Charley" Alvin Stark, 83, went home to be with his Lord. His life was built on an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, which guided his words, actions, and the way he loved others. Charley's kind heart, joyful spirit, and love for God's Word touched everyone who knew him.

Charley was born April 22, 1942, in Aurora, Missouri, to Frank and Pearl (Gray) Stark, the youngest of four children. He grew up in a home filled with hard work, faith, and strong family bonds.

After graduating from Billings High School in 1960, Charley worked for Standard Oil. He often shared stories about delivering fuel to the I-44 construction crews. Charley was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1964, serving with honor in the Vietnam War as part of the 131st Aerial Weapons Company, 1st Cavalry Division.

Upon his return, what began as a "winter job" at Litton/Interpak turned into a 35-year career, where Charley retired as Operations Manager. Known for his steady work ethic, fairness, and kindness, he was respected by all who worked with him.

On February 20, 1966, Charley married the love of his life, Betty (Salchow) Stark. Together they built a beautiful life anchored in faith, raising two daughters, Shelley and Sharla, who carry on their parents' legacy of love, faith, and devotion.

For 46 years, Charley served as president of the Ozarks Steam Engine Association and was an active member of the SWMO Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association, Branch 16. He loved stock car racing-spending time behind the wheel in his younger days and attending countless local and national events later in life. One of his greatest joys was partnering with his brother, Frank, in Raceway Ministries, where they shared the love of Christ with race fans for many years.

Since childhood, Charley's life was marked by faithful service to the Lord. He served as a deacon for 45 years, most recently at Brookline First Baptist Church. His greatest joy was seeing all his children, grandchildren, and their spouses walking in the Truth and actively serving the Lord in their own churches.

Charley is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Pearl Stark; his siblings, Virginia (Salchow), Gaylord, and Frank. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Betty; daughters Shelley (Dean) Elliott and Sharla (Brian) Richardson; grandchildren Jordan (Abbie) Richardson, Jarrett Richardson, Jace (Jess) Richardson, Daniel (Autumn) Elliott, and Luke (Kadee) Elliott; and many dearly loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
