Charles Steppe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thompson Funeral Homes - Lexington on Feb. 18, 2025.
Charles Merrivale Steppe, age 71, of Ridgeway, SC went to his eternal home on February 16, 2025. Charles was born in New Orleans, LA to the late Reverend Warren D. Steppe and Pauline Geiger Steppe. He is survived by his wife Sandra B. Steppe, sons Alexander Steppe (Shane) and John Bush (Brenda), and granddaughters Marie and Jenna Bush.
Charles is also survived by brothers Warren D. Steppe II (Wanda), and Keith Steppe (Geralyn); by sisters Patricia Sams and Carolinda Ellisor (Steve), plus numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister Sheryl Chesney.
His early years were spent growing up in Fairfield county where he played baseball in Blackstock on the team coached by his father. Charles often accompanied his father in his ministry and sang on gospel radio shows. He attended school in Chester.
Later in life he hosted and sang in karaoke shows in the midlands. Charles would go on to host The Longtown Sound and WLSO.FN podcasts, curating an "ear-picked" selection of new indie music for US troops stationed abroad, which he delivered with positive messages, comedy, and signing off "be good to yourself, be kind to yourself, and if you are goin' fishing - take a kid".
Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting in funeral arrangements. A memorial service will be planned at a future date.
