Larry L. Steppe was born March 5, 1936 in Junction City, Kansas the son of Albert F. and Janice (Davison) Steppe. He passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024 at the Chapman Valley Manor Nursing Home in Chapman.
Larry Graduated from the Dickinson County Community High School in 1955 and then attended the University of Kansas for two years.
Larry served in the United States Navy from 1957–1961 and then worked for the Junction City Police Department from 1961-1962. He then worked for Firestone and went back to the police force from 1963-1966. Following that, Larry worked civil service at Ft. Riley until retiring in 1995.
Larry loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, metal detecting, and photography.
On February 17, 1979 he was united in marriage to Barbara (Graves) Burgett in Chapman. She passed away January 5, 2013. He is survived by his loving step children who looked after him and loved him very much. His step sons Herbert Burgett and his wife Andra Kaye of Chapman, Kansas, Michael Burgett and his companion Joleen Rankin of Abilene, Kansas, step daughter Gina (Burgett) Mitchell and her husband Kevin of Junction City, Kansas, son Larry Michael Steppe of Versailles, Missouri, brother Gary Steppe (Karen) of Kansas City, sister Barbara Blythe (Steve) of Junction City, Kansas, five grandsons, and seven great grandchildren. Besides his wife, Larry is preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Monday, November 18, 2024 at the Good Hope Cemetery, Sage Road Chapman, Kansas with Pastor Darren Baker officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the Chapman American Legion Post 240. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Sunday at the Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Chapman. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chapman American Legion Post 240 or to Hospice of Dickinson County and may be mailed in care of the Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 411, Chapman, Kansas 67431.
