Charles Wesley Summers Jr

1946 - 2026

Charles Wesley Summers, Jr., treasured husband, father, grandfather and friend, went to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of January 4, 2026, held in the arms of his wife and children.

He was born in Memphis, Tennessee on August 4, 1946, to Charles Wesley Summers, Sr. and Violet Weatherall Summers. He graduated from White Station High School, class of 1964, and from Memphis State University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

He married Ruth McCall Heiskell in June of 1968. He joined the Mississippi Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in October of 1970. After several years as a realtor for Marx and Bensdorf, he joined his father and brother at the Charles W. Summers Company, doing specialty roofing and sheet metal contracting. Welsey grew up at Holy Communion Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir, later joining Grace St. Luke's Episcopal Church and St. John's Episcopal Church. In later years, he and his wife, Ruth, joined his son and family at Christ the King Lutheran Church where they were warmly welcomed.

Wesley never met a stranger. He loved talking to people, mostly hearing about where they went to school and what they were doing. He was not hesitant to tell anyone who would listen about his family and how proud he was of each of them. He enjoyed annual family beach trips, entertaining and grilling barbeque and ribs, eating out (especially at Coastal Fish Company) and being with his brother every day running their business. A man of stellar moral character and strong faith, he was truly a blessing to all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife; his children, Lee Waits (John) of Jackson, MS, Charles Wesley "Bo" Summers, III (Marti) of Memphis, TN; his grandchildren, Jay, Will, and Ellyn Waits and Wesley and Madalyn Summers; his sisters, Violet Lett (Bill) of Auburn, AL, Elaine Travis (Warren) of Memphis, TN, and Joyce Brogden (Russ) of Kingsport, TN, his brother, John Summers (Sandra) of Memphis, TN and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. and will be followed by a service at the church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow immediately at St. John's Episcopal Cemetery.
