Charles Leon Sweat, born on September 9, 1944, in Starke, Florida, ascended to eternal rest on February 20, 2026, in Tavares, Florida. He was a man of remarkable character and an indomitable spirit whose impact will resonate through the lives he enriched.
A distinguished leader, Charles served as President of the largest privately owned water and waste utility company in Florida. He commanded attention and respect in all the best ways, embodying a take-charge attitude that inspired those around him. Charles’s professional life, marked by diligence and vision, reflected his innate ability to lead and serve.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Charles was a devoted Christian, serving as head deacon at the Wekiwa Springs Baptist Church. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and fostering a deep love for the Lord, which he carried in his heart until the end of his days.
Charged with an adventurous spirit, Charles embraced life with enthusiasm, dedicating his time to weight lifting, traveling, and camping. These hobbies were not merely pastimes but passions that filled his life with joy and provided treasured moments with family and friends.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Judy, his sons Dwayne and Darrell and their spouses, a devoted sister, Mary, and a brother, Buddy. He was a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren and their spouses, and a proud great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren, with an eager one on the way. Charles's legacy of love and guidance extends further through many nieces and nephews who carry his memory in their hearts.
His passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew him, particularly felt in the absence of his beloved daughter, Lorri, and his parents, Elbridge and Dorothy. He is also preceded in death by his sisters Susan and Emma Ruth, whose spirits now reunite with him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 28, 2026, at the Wekiwa Springs Baptist Church in Apopka, Florida, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, as family and friends gather to honor a man who lived with purpose and grace.
Charles Leon Sweat will forever be remembered as a pillar of strength, a devoted family man, and a true servant of God. His life was a testament to hard work, devotion, and love, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.
