Chuck was born and raised in Marysville, Kansas. After his high school graduation, he immediately enlisted in the Marines. Serving in the Marines was one of his greatest prides; he was very fond of those years. Throughout his life he would seek out other Marines and after a heartfelt ‘Semper Fi,’ begin a conversation with them as though he had known them all his life. After serving in the Marines, he began working for Boeing, manufacturing airplanes. In 1961, he started working for Continental as an airline mechanic where he gained the nickname, “Thumper.”
Chuck spent most of his life in Colorado raising his three sons, Dean, Gary, and Craig with his wife, Carolyn of 67 years.
Chuck loved the Colorado lifestyle as he was an avid fisherman, hunter, and exceptional skier. He taught his sons to ski and continued to ski well into his 80s. Chuck was also a talented gardener with a true green thumb and loved growing everything from vegetables to roses. Chuck also never met a machine he could not fix or improve.
Chuck was a voracious reader and was constantly learning new things, especially in war history. He loved playing games, especially playing checkers with all his grandchildren as soon as they could hold the pieces. As well as playing card games with family and friends from church.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Throm and Beryl Hunter, his brother, Wes Throm, his sister Georgia (Throm) Griffon, stepfather Fitz Knudsen, and half-sister Dorthy.
He leaves behind his beautiful wife, Carolyn and their three sons and their families: Dean and his wife Carol of West Des Moines, Iowa, Gary and his wife Kris of Lobelville, Tennessee, and Craig and his wife Charlene of Watkins, Colorado. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Jessica Johnson and her husband Brett, Stephanie and her husband Eric, Samantha Lakin, Samuel Throm, Zach Lakin and his wife Kyra, Danielle Throm, and Katherine Throm. As well as his great grandchildren Logan Harrison, Courtney Harrison, Lilly Johnson, Dean Fresquez, and Raelin Fresquez.
He is survived by his stepmother Hammer Throm, half-sisters Karen Klebold, Marriane Alameno, Becky Blanc, and half-brother, Donny Throm.
There will be a reception to follow after the service. Then, a graveside service will be held at Fort Logan Cemetery. Please meet us at staging area WHITE at 1:15pm so the cemetery grounds can take us to the shelter where there will be military honors performed.
