Charles Anthony Watts, affectionately known as "Babe" to his friends and family, lived a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and unyielding passion. Born on July 9, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, Babe's journey through life was one marked by dedication, joy, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones. On August 13, 2025, Babe's story on this earth concluded in Bastrop, Texas, surrounded by the warmth of his family and the memories of a life well-lived.
Babe's early years in St. Louis were a prelude to a life of service and hard work. After graduating high school in 1958, he answered the call of duty and served as a US Marine in Korea for four years. His military service was a testament to his strength and patriotism-a foundation for the many roles he would embrace throughout his life. Upon his return, Babe embarked on a career as a tire technician, a trade he mastered while working at BF Goodrich Tire Center, Pep Boys Tire Service, and eventually retiring from Sam's Club Tire Service. His work ethic and friendly demeanor left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of working with him.
In 2017, Babe married his beloved wife, Beverly, in
Kyle, Texas. Their union was a beautiful chapter in a story that spanned 8 years and included his cherished daughters Christina Williams and her husband Wiley, Kathy Singleton, Kemberly George, and his sons Joseph Watts and his wife Terri, Michael Watts and his wife Fran, Michael Wilson, and Michael Anthony Bonoan. Babe was a loving father who instilled values of kindness and humor in his children. Though he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Dawn Watts, his son Charles Anthony Watts II, and his parents Charles William Watts and Frances Josephine Stolle, his legacy lives on through his 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 25 great-great-grandchildren.
Babe's interests were as diverse as they were delightful. He was known for his love of country music and dancing, a hobby that brought joy to his heart and a twinkle to his eye. Bird watching allowed him to appreciate the beauty of nature, while his prowess in golf and bowling made him a formidable and fun-loving opponent. His love for puzzles reflected his patient and analytical mind, and his deep affection for his animals, Candy the donkey, and his dogs Cocoa, Sarge and Stinky, showcased his tender and caring spirit.
To say that Babe was loving, passionate, and funny only scratches the surface of a man whose presence could light up a room. His humor was a gift that he shared generously, bringing smiles to faces even on the cloudiest of days. His passion for life was infectious, inspiring those around him to embrace each moment with enthusiasm and gratitude. Babe's love for his family and friends was boundless, and he cultivated relationships with the richness and care of a master gardener tending to his most prized roses.
As we reflect on the life of Charles Anthony Watts, let us remember the laughter, the dance, the music, and the love he shared with each of us. His life was a reminder that every day is a gift to be cherished, every relationship a treasure to be nurtured, and every challenge an opportunity to grow.
