Charles Richard Weems, affectionately known as Rick, was born on December 11, 1958, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Rick lived a life filled with passion, love, and dedication, which he carried through every facet of his existence. He passed peacefully at home on August 1, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, August 4, 2025 at Morningside Baptist Church, 6065 Morningside Dr. Columbus, GA 31909. The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to service at the church, according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Rick's early years were marked by a love for sports, particularly baseball. He attended Columbus College from 1976 to 1980, where his talent on the field shone brightly. As a player, he earned All-American honors, showcasing his athleticism. Following his college career, he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals, where he played professionally until 1984.
Throughout his life, Rick remained fiercely devoted to both his faith and his family. He cherished spending time with his loved ones and was especially proud of his role as a father and grandfather. His commitment to his children extended beyond the home, as he found great joy in coaching baseball, sharing his knowledge and love for the sport with his sons and countless others.
Rick was a passionate supporter of Alabama football, demonstrating an unwavering loyalty that resonated deeply with those who knew him. His personality was a blend of hard work and genuine affection, characteristics that endeared him to many. He loved Jesus and approached life with a spirit filled with warmth and kindness.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Lisa, and their children: Whitney (Drew), Chase (Gabrielle), and Jordan (Melody). He also took great pride in his role as a grandfather to Kinley, Campbell, and Collier. Rick is remembered fondly by his siblings, Wayne, Rena, Kay, and Angie, along with numerous nieces and nephews and aunt Christine, who will all carry his memory forward.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Charles Weems, and his father, David Andra Weems.
The legacy of Rick Weems will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His spirit, characterized by passion, love, and a commitment to family, will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
