With broken hearts, the family announces the passing of Charles John Welgatt Jr., 82, of Seatonville, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Peru, surrounded by his loving family.
Private funeral services were held at the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru with Rev. Gary Blake, pastor of St. Joseph Church, Peru officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Webster Park.
Mr. Welgatt was born October 9, 1943 in Peru to Charles Sr. and Dorothy (Menne) Welgatt. He was a graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School. He married Christy Vega on March 29, 1980 at St. Gertrude Church in Seatonville. He worked as a supervisor at Hobbs for 43 years.
Mr. Welgatt enjoyed fishing, antiquing, and sitting on the porch, reminiscing with friends, and watching the birds. He had a fondness for saving homeless cats. He had a generous, giving heart. His greatest love was for his family.
Survivors include his wife, Christy; two children, Kenneth (Kerry) Welgatt of Chicago and Stephanie (David) Eich of Seatonville; and his beloved cat, Snowball.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

knew charlie shortly after high school. he was leadman. i was learning plating. always had respect for chuck, being we were same age. 10 years later, went back to hobbs as toolmaker. charlie was foreman in a department with 90% ladies. at times we had the pleasure of working in charlies department. he had many lines, such as " wth you doing? bothering my ladies, again ?" then the smile and the snicker, and you knew he was joking.. CHRIS> i'm sorry. will stop by when it warms up... HE was a winner, kid ! but you know that ! a BIG hug for you... chin up.. denny and pat....
