Charles Wertley Obituary

Charles R. Wertley, 84, of Plymouth Meeting passed away on Thursday, Oct. 18 in his home after battling a long illness. Born in Upper Darby on Dec. 7, 1927 he was the son of the late Paul and Kathryn Wertley. In 1945 Charles made the decision to leave high school in order to serve his country during WWII; he became a Yeoman, 2nd class in the US Navy, aboard aircraft carrier CVE 20 from September of 1945 until his honorable discharge in March of 1946. Upon his return to the US, Charles returned to school and graduated from Haverford Township High School before continuing his education at the Keystone College of Business where he received an Associate's Degree in accounting and management. He worked as the general manager of Wynnewood Company, a real estate development company, until his retirement in 1993. Charles was an avid bowler and collector of logo golf balls, as well as a talented artist – family will always remember him as a loving husband, father and grandfather who made every family gathering special and memorable. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Laura Anne; his four children, Charles Jr. (Lucy), Linda Don (the late David Don), Diane, and Thomas; one sister, Mary Lou (Ike) Hand; and seven grandchildren, Allison, Patrick, Julianne, Alexandra, Justin, Leah and Evan.
