Charles West Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Woodbine Funeral Home - Waller Chapel on Dec. 10, 2025.
Charles K. West of Nolensville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, December 7, 2025. He was born in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee, on February 6, 1931, and was raised in Goodlettsville by his Aunt Maude and Uncle Carlis Draper. As a boy, he enjoyed running on the Draper farm and building model airplanes. He made Nolensville his home, beginning in 1970 and lived there for the rest of his life.

He joined the United States Navy at 16 years old and served as a boatswain's mate in both World War II and the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in January 1953. After returning home, he worked several jobs in Nashville before joining J and L Steel Company, where he began his career in the mill and later a steel hauler. He retired after thirty years of service

In 1954, he met his future wife, Dot, at the Shelby Street Diner after being introduced by her mother. They were married in 1955, and their first child was born in 1956. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Louise Goddard West.

Charles was an early member of Jenkins Cumberland Presbyterian Church and oversaw the building of the structure. He loved fishing, especially in Leatherwood on Kentucky Lake. He and Dot raised French Bulldogs and traveled across the country to shows, and their dogs were eventually found around the world. He also enjoyed deer and squirrel hunting and spent many hours in his woodworking shop.

He dedicated his life to making sure his children and grandchildren were somewhere every weekend having fun. He drove the kids across the country, hoping they would return to those places as adults and see their value. He was a devoted family man whose purpose was caring for the people he loved.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherry and her husband, Ronald Windrow; his son, Michael West; and his grandchildren, Brian (Leigh) Windrow, Danny West, Douglas West, Chad Windrow, and Devin West. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Taylor Stole, Caleb West, Reese Windrow, and Addison and Breanna West.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and again Friday, December 12, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon, at Jenkins Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 2501 York Road, Nolensville, TN. The funeral service will then begin at noon. Interment with Military Honors at Nolensville Cemetery.
