Dalzell, South Carolina - Dalzell, SC .... Charles "Charley" Edgar Whyde Jr, 70, of Dalzell, SC passed away peacefully at his home on September 26, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones.
Charley was born and raised in Nashville, TN and moved to SC in the early 70's. He had a music career that spanned over 40 years with bands such as Shag Time and Toyzz and he retired from Pecknel Music Co. Besides his passion for music, he loved riding his motorcycle, Atlanta Braves Baseball, USC Gamecocks, all things WWII, and spending time with his best friend and devoted dog Leo.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl A. Whyde, his son Charles" Tripp" Whyde III, his daughters Leslie Goebel (Paul), Cheryl Grillo (Dave), his sister Barbara Robbins (Eddie), and stepdaughters Tiffany Davenport (Emily), Ashley Painter (Kendall), Whitney Estes (Kwon), 7 grandchildren, his best friend and bandmate Ricky Wilson, and his grand dog Brewskie .
Charley was predeceased by his parents Charles Whyde Sr. & Lillie Underwood Whyde.
The family would like to thank those who showed him such love, compassion, and kindness throughout his long and courageous battle with cancer. A special thank you to the Amedisys Hospice Team, especially his "girls" Tina Thompson & Antoinette Johnson. Charley lived his life never meeting a stranger and showing kindness to everyone. His strong but gentle soul will be missed by all.
Charley requested that his life be celebrated as opposed to traditional funeral services. His family will receive friends and loved ones to celebrate his life on Sunday, October 2, 2022, from 2:00-5:00 pm at his home.
