Rev. Dr. Charles "Bill" Nourse
December 17, 1942-March 11, 2023
A life-long resident of Memphis, Bill was a graduate of Catholic High for Boys Class of 1960, and played the saxophone in the band. He continued his education at Memphis State University. He then enlisted in the Navy before returning to college. He received a Doctorate in Higher Education in 1983.
Bill was an avid reader and had many interests. He worked for Crye Lyke Realtors for several years. He volunteered for the Memphis Police as a reserve officer for 41 years.
Bill was ordained on March 4, 2000 as a permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church. He was assigned to the Church of the Holy Spirit. He also worked at The Diocese of Memphis in the marriage tribunal. He loved to do the Homily at Mass.
He decided to teach school and was at Immaculate Conception High School teaching sophomore girls for five magical years. He said this was the best job he ever had.
Survived by his loving wife Christine Mathewson Nourse. They would have been married 30 years on May 7. His daughter, Rebecca Otts (Lee); his son, Will Nourse; three grandchildren: Michael Benham (Brittany), Madison Harrington (Devin), Mary Benham; 2 great-grandchildren: Abel Harrington and Delilah Benham and his many cats, especially Tigger.
Always a jokester and knowledgeable in History, the Church, and anything else he could read about. He was a member of MENSA.
Bill was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He also is in the American Legion.
Bill loves people and parties. He was the 4th living member of his college buddies. Keep partying three friends.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2023 at Church of the Holy Spirit. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Church of the Holy Spirit. Private Burial.
