A year has gone by. Charlie remains in my thoughts as a caring trusteed friend. One can not ask for more from another. To his family and close friends, his life is one to celebrate. I miss him.

What a loss to his friends and loved ones, daughter Smith, Misti and Buddy McCarty, and his sister Lynn, who I never met, but knew how important she was to Charlie. I last talked to Charlie on 7/22 when he was in serious discomfort from the experimental medications that he was receiving, and he had to disconnect. But such a courageous, loving person and friend he was. As much pain as he was in, he found the strength to call me back later on the same day, his birthday, to continue the conversation. He was the subject of many prayers as he struggled with his illness. I loved Charlie like a brother, and we shared the challenges of life and the problems of business. He honored me in his memoir "Strengthening Nails" as one of his mentors. The truth is that Charlie served me as well, as a valuable, trusted friend. I, and many others will miss him!!! RIP my friend.

Charles was one of my oldest friends. We shared our closest secrets as friends at Rankin school and through THS. We attended Miss State and lived across the hall from each other in Dugger Hall. He graduated with honors and I, well I graduated. Over the years business took us our separate ways. After his retirement he moved back to Tupelo we reconnected with the class of '61 Wednesday lunch bunch and road around and talked old times. He was one of those friends that you can basically pick up where you left off no matter how much time has gone by.
He is going to be missed!
