Charles Woodfork Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ronald Taylor II Funeral Home - Washington D.C. on Jan. 23, 2026.
"In everything there is a season and the timing of the Almighty is perfect."

A Time to be Born: Charles Woodfork was born on July 20, 1930 in Washington DC to the late Mattie and Emmett Woodfork.

A Time to Worship: Charles joined the Meridian Hill Baptist Church at an early age where he served and sang in the Church's choirs for many years.

A Time to Develop: Charles lived and attended schools in Washington DC and Virginia. He served in the US Army, worked with children in Group Homes and worked at the Department of Defense and the Lemuel R. Woodfork Funeral Home until retiring.

A Time to Love: Charles met and was united in marriage to Viola Twyman for 26 years. He was a caregiver. He opened up his home and heart to many. Charles was a beacon to the entire family. There was always space in his home for anyone who needed a place to live. He adopted many children as his own.

A Time to Leave: And now after a rich and meaningful life, Charles was called to rest.

A Time of Peace: Although this long and earthly life has ended, the book of life has not closed for our brother. His spirit, strength, love and wisdom will continue in the hearts and minds of his loved ones.

He leaves to cherish his memory; William Woodfork (grandson); Earl Woodfork (nephew); Gerald Woodfork (nephew); Mark Woodfork (nephew); Lynette Woodfork (niece); Janice Reynolds (a special niece); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, friends and colleagues.

Poem

A million times we'll need you

A million times we'll cry

If love alone could have saved you.

You never would have died.

We watched and nourished you daily

But could not make you stay

Knowing God has all the power

And God must have his way.

In life we loved you dearly,

In death we love you still,

In our hearts you hold a special place

No one else can ever fill.
