Charley Louis Schmidt was born on June 3, 1940, in Courtland, Minnesota. He was the son of Louis and Hulda (Pongratz) Schmidt. Charley was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 11, 1954. He received his education in Gaylord, Minnesota, graduating with the Gaylord High School Class of 1958. On June 3, 1959, Charley was united in marriage to Myrtiss Voss in Mason City, Iowa. Charley and Myrtiss made their home in Gaylord, Arlington and in 1966, moved to Glencoe, Minnesota, and then in 2004, moved to Silver Lake, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with seven children, Jacqulynn, Jesse, Joey, Jeffrey, James, Judy and Jodi. Charley and Myrtiss shared over 53 years of marriage. Charley worked at Layne Minnesota Co. in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for 32 years, where he was a well driller, welder and drove truck. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota, and Union #49. Charley enjoyed farming and being outside, which included, growing grapes, feeding the birds and remodeling. He loved taking trips on the train. Charley cherished the time spent with his family and friends. Charley passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at his home in Silver Lake, Minnesota, at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 17 days. Blessed be his memory. Charley is survived by his: Wife, Myrtiss Schmidt of Silver Lake, MN; Children, Jacqulynn Gildea and her husband, Steven, of Glencoe, MN, Jesse Schmidt of Hutchinson, MN, Joey Schmidt and his special friend, Lacy Rohrbeck, of Waconia, MN, Jeffrey Schmidt and his friend, Jerry Brewe, of Belle Plaine, MN, James Schmidt and his wife, Kristin, of Glencoe, MN, Judy Litzau and her special friend, Paul, of Glencoe, MN, Jodi Schmidt of Silver Lake, MN; Grandchildren, Jamie Thoele and her husband, Daniel, Jeremy Gildea and his wife, Becky, Jason Gildea and his wife, Jayme, Jessica Gildea and her special friend, Sam, Kristina Schmidt, Emilee Schmidt, Jacob Schmidt, Jenna Morris and her husband, Tyler, Justin Schmidt, Julia Schmidt, Jill Schmidt, Jocelyn Litzau and her fiancé, Travis; Great Grandchildren, Morgan, Maelynn, Macey and Maleena Thoele, Madison, MacKenzie and Jasmyn Gildea, Riely Edblom; Siblings, Cathie Sturges of Glencoe, MN, Donna Mae Kirchenwitz and her husband, Melvin, of Tonka Bay, MN; Brothers-In-Law and Sisters-In-Law, Pamela Bauer of Montevido, MN, Mildred Stuhr and her husband, Vernon, of Olivia, MN; Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and many friends. Charley is preceded in death by his Parents, Louis and Hulda Schmidt; Father-In-Law and Mother-In-Law, Louis and Lillian Voss.
