CHARLIE T. BARNES, JR.

Charlie T. Barnes, Jr., 92, of Pembroke, Kentucky died at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at his home after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home with Rev. Catherine DeMoss officiating. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at the funeral home. Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A native of Crofton, Kentucky he was born on May 20, 1933 the son of the late Charlie T. Barnes, Sr. and Pearl Frey Barnes. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Townley Barnes and his brothers, Paul Barnes and Robert Wayne Barnes.

Charlie played basketball at Crofton High School then worked as a metal smith at Johnson's Tin Shop for over 40 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman from an early age and always enjoyed being outdoors. He lived on the farm for most of his married life where he was happiest working in the garden, mending fences, and keeping the yard immaculate. Charlie was a 35-year member of the Christian County Adult Farm Program and was a member of Pembroke Christian Church where he served as deacon. He and Annie served many years with their friends at the Salvation Army Soup kitchen. In his later years, he used his metal smith skills to make bluebird houses which he shared with friends and family.

Survivors include his son: Dr. Tim (Bethany) Barnes of Marion, Illinois and his daughter, Sheila (Steve) DeMoss of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; his sister, Dorene P'Pool of Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Three grandchildren; Lindsey Sollers, Rev. Catherine DeMoss and Ali Kern; two great grandchildren, Gia Sollers and Clayton Kern.

Contributions may take the form of donations to Pembroke Christian Church.
