COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Charles Dennis Lumpkin, fondly known as Charlie, passed away peacefully at his residence on October 8, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on March 11, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, Charlie's journey through life was filled with dedication, love, and an unwavering spirit that touched all who knew him.
For many years, Charlie contributed his skills and hard work as a maintenance worker at Federal Mogul until his well-deserved retirement. His commitment to his profession was matched only by his passion for life, which extended beyond work to his many hobbies and interests. He was an enthusiast of guitars, a devoted fan of Harley Davidson motorcycles, and cherished moments spent outdoors fishing, hunting, and farming.
Charlie proudly served in the United States Army. His military service instilled in him values of honor and resilience that he carried throughout his life. These qualities were reflected not only in his work but also in his relationships with those around him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Martha Sparks Lumpkin, who was by his side throughout their life together. Charlie's legacy will continue through his children, including daughters Julie Lynn (Donn) Cross, Crystal (Trevis) Maynard, and Melanie (Jody) Omohundro, as well as sons Chuck Lumpkin (Sunny Johnson) and Corey Lumpkin. He was a proud grandfather to fourteen grandchildren and a loving great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren, bringing joy and wisdom to his family gatherings. He is also survived by a sister, Debbie and husband Don Clouse, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Charlie is also remembered fondly by his special friends, Danny Davis, since childhood, and Danny Hall, whose companionship enriched his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Charles Lumpkin and Bessie Evelyn Sherrill Lumpkin, as well as his sister, Kay Mangrum. Charlie was also preceded by his father and mother-in-law, Waymon and Irene Sparks, who he held dear.
