Charlie Meyer Obituary

Visit the Huebner Funeral Home - Denison website to view the full obituary.

Charles Edward Meyer was born on November 9, 1954, the son of Lyle Allen and JoAnn Delorse (Maack) Meyer in Denison, Iowa. He was baptized and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Charlie attended Denison High School and graduated with the Class of 1973.

Following graduation, Charlie began his career with Badding Construction, where he worked for 16 years. On September 17, 1977, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Robin Jurgensen, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Together they made their home in Denison and were blessed with three children: Jennifer, Jessica, and Jonathan.

On October 11, 1989, Charlie began working for the City of Denison in the Parks and Recreation Department. Whether plowing snow, cutting trees, or maintaining the community’s parks, Charlie took great pride in his work and served his hometown faithfully for 35 years until his well-deserved retirement.

Charlie was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison. He was deeply involved in his community and always eager to help others. Each year, he raised money for the Shriners Hospital by selling sweet Vidalia onions and supported 4-H and the Four County Fair, collecting donations, in which he did for the kids. Charlie was also a dedicated coach, referee, and volunteer for youth baseball, softball, basketball, and football. His craftsmanship and commitment could even be seen in the Monarch baseball clubhouse, which he helped build.

A true outdoorsman, Charlie enjoyed fishing, visiting the sale barn, and sledding with his grandchildren. He was known for his attention to detail and took great pride in keeping his home and yard looking their best. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Charlie could be counted on when someone was in need. Charlie’s playful spirit and sense of humor made him beloved by many. He enjoyed a good joke and loved pulling pranks, often catching people off guard by setting off a firecracker just to get a laugh. He was an avid sports fan, cheering passionately for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Family gatherings and games of euchre were among Charlie’s greatest joys. He cherished his family and treasured every moment spent with them.

Charlie passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 13 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; and father-in-law, Gerald Jurgensen.

He is survived by his wife of over 48 years, Robin Meyer of Denison; children: Jennifer (Jason) Knickman of Dunlap, Jessica Meyer of Ames and Jonathan Meyer of Sac City; bonus son, Lucas Gilmore; grandchildren: Cooper Knickman, Addyson Knickman, Saylor Bills and Lincoln Meyer; siblings: Lynnel Meyer of Fresno, California, Jerry (Lori) Meyer of Denison, Stanley Meyer of Vail and Darwin (Chris) Meyer of Schleswig; siblings-in-law, Rhonda (Gary) Hank of Wayne, Nebraska, Denise (Bryce) Meeves and Barry Jurgensen all of Denison; many nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.

Visitation with family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, also at Our Savior Lutheran Church. The family will direct memorials to various local organizations including the Four County Fair.
