Charlie Sheldahl Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 14, 2025.
Charles "Charlie" Edward Sheldahl, 82, of Huxley, Iowa, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025.
Charlie was born on August 29, 1943, in Ames, Iowa, to Osmond and Christine (Lande) Sheldahl. He graduated from Ballard High School in 1961 and married his wife, Evy Harmon, on August 29, 1986, at Palestine Lutheran Church. A lifelong farmer, Charlie worked on the family farm and proudly lived in the same farmhouse for more than 80 years.
He loved farming alongside his dad, Osmond, his brother, Arlin, and his nephew, Rick, feeding and raising cattle, and caring for his many dogs: Tootz, Duke, Dutchess, Toby, and his car buddy, Tucker, to name a few. As a member of Palestine Peppy Pushers 4-H Club, Charlie showed cattle in his youth and fondly remembered a special family trip to Fort Worth, Texas, for a stock show. He also played the trumpet in the school band. After high school, enjoyed playing fastpitch softball for Huxley.
When he wasn't on the farm, Charlie could often be found playing golf or cards at Ballard Golf & Country Club, going for drives, or getting lunch at the Hy-Vee Deli or Taco John's. Though quiet and reserved, Charlie had a distinct presence, always well-dressed and neatly put together, with his signature stogie in hand. He had a gift for conversation and could strike up a chat with nearly anyone he met. His grandchildren cherish memories of his famous homemade popcorn, golf cart rides, and their many trips to Break Pointe for collapsible coffee cups–and just about anything else their hearts desired.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 39 years, Evy; stepchildren, Jay Harmon and Jodi (Mike) Brungardt; five grandchildren, Ashley (Maynor) Argueta, Whitney (Luke) Hoyle, Samantha (Darin) Carlson, Jake Zimmerman, and Josie (Keisha) Harmon; eight great-grandchildren, Daxten, Ava, Allie, Sofia, Bristol, Aspen, Lottie, and Samual; his sister, Nancy Fausch, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A celebration of Charlie's life will be held at Nord-Kalsem Community Center in Huxley on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 2 p.m., followed by a casual gathering with refreshments.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Charlie Sheldahl.
