Charles Vay ”Charlie” Simmons, age 85, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in Mesquite, Nevada. He was born June 22, 1940, in Overton, Nevada to Vay Charles and Lucinda Burgess Simmons. On November 2, 1962, he married the love of his life, Paula Ann Harmon, in North Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later sealed for time and all eternity on May 1, 1980, in the St. George LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on September 19, 2023.
Charlie grew up in Overton and worked many different jobs before beginning what became a 40+ year career in construction with the Max Riggs Construction Company. In 1980 he chose to return to the faith of his childhood, turning his life around with deep devotion for his sweetheart and family. From that point forward he served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He mentored many young men through scouting and camping adventures and was always ready to lend a hand or share his steady wisdom.
He was known for his long four-wheeler rides, golfing, camping, hunting, and spending time with his family. Whether he was out on the lake, up in the mountains, or gathered around a table with those he loved, Charlie made every moment purposeful. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Survivors include two daughters and four sons: Judy (Dale) Altom; Janet (Darrel) Scudder, both of Arkansas; Dwayne Herrington of Las Vegas; Rick (DonnieAnn); David (Amy); and Brian, all of Overton; son-in-law, Rolf Bundy of Las Vegas; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; one brother and two sisters: Mel, Betty, and Susie. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa; two brothers and two sisters: Ray, Marvin, DeeDee, and Karen.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Overton Chapel, 226 W. Thomas Street, Overton. Visitation will be Friday, November 21, 2025, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary and again from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Pioneer Hill Memorial Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to sign our online guest book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com
