Charlie Soraci Obituary
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Plantersville at 12:00 pm Noon, on Tuesday January 18, 2022. The family looks forward to visiting with guests in the hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is honored to have longtime friend Father Philip Wilhite to celebrate Mass.
Charlie was born in New York on September 7, 1934, to parents Joseph and Giovanni (Borruso) Soraci. He grew up in Brooklyn and enjoyed a strong connection with his rich Italian heritage. This became a part of Charlie he never left behind, although he became a long-time Texas resident in years to come.
Charlie had a love of sports, especially baseball. Throughout his school years he played basketball and baseball. As a young man, he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Although baseball wasn't a longtime career, it remained part of his life. He volunteered to coach boys' basketball with CYO (Catholic Youth Organization).
On January 10, 1957, Charlie was united in marriage to Lynn Surratt. They spent 65 wonderful years together prior to her passing on September 4, 2021. Most of all, Charlie loved his family. He loved being a dad and a grandpa. Charlie was a devout Catholic, and very strong in his faith.
Charlie is survived by: daughters Pam Alexander (husband Larry), Jeni Custer (husband Rick), and Billye S. Klawinsky; grandkids Larry Alexander Jr., Katie Alford, Chas Schuhmann, Steven Klawinsky; great-grandkids Gracie, Anna, and Lucy Alexander, Luke and Charlie Ann Alford, and Natania Schuhmann.
Charlie is preceded in death by his beloved wife Lynn, his brother Benny, sister Rose and his parents.
Pallbearers will be Larry Alexander Sr., Larry Alexander Jr., Steven Klawinsky, Rick Custer, and Eric Alford.
