Charlotte Bench Obituary

Published by Legacy from Sep. 21 to Oct. 1, 2025.
Charlotte Louise Bench, born on March 25, 1949, in Winnsboro, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025. A beloved daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Charlotte touched the lives of many with her warmth and creativity.
Charlotte devoted much of her life to being a homemaker, cherishing her role in shaping the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was a gifted painter and craftswoman, often bringing joy to those around her with her artistic talents. In her younger years, she delighted in baking, known for her exceptional homemade pies that were a treasured treat at family gatherings. Charlotte moved to Missouri in 1999 with her children.
A loving and compassionate soul, Charlotte offered her support to those in need, embodying the spirit of a true Christian. Her loving nature extended beyond her family, earning her the affectionate title of "Nana" to everyone she met, regardless of their relationship to her. Charlotte's skills in sewing and crocheting became a means of expressing her love, as she lovingly crafted blankets for family and friends, wrapping them in comfort and care.
Charlotte is survived by her devoted daughter Shawnee Bench and husband Jason; son Shannon Mellinger and wife Regina Mellinger, Brandy McCann, and Tanya Denmon; and numerous grandchildren, including Vincent Mellinger, Sierra Bench, Alissa Bench, Gabriel Bench, Cheyenne Woods, Brooke Woods, Arianna Woods, Tahya Woods, and Tayryn McDarment; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister, Pat Behrens; and a host of family and friends. She is preceded in death by her loving parents R.B. and Bertha Shirley, and a sister, Janice Mustin.
A celebration of Charlotte's life, will be held from 3-6 pm, Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Lockwood United Methodist Church, 410 N. Main Street, Lockwood, MO 65682.
Charlotte's loving spirit and selfless acts of kindness will forever be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Each homemade pie, crafted blanket, and act of goodwill will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. In her memory, let us carry forward her legacy of love, creativity, and compassion.
