With deep sorrow and heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather Robby Dean Bench, age 63, returned to his heavenly home. Born October 18, 1962 at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah, he was a cherished gift from the very beginning. On December 13, 2025 at the very same hospital, he left this earthly life leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and adventure. Robby created a lifetime of cherished memories for his loved ones and was a constant source of entertainment and joy for those around him.
Son of the late Jay Bench, Joan Bench Spivey and stepfather Tom Spivey. Beloved brother of the late Tami Richins, Bryan (Mona) Bench, James Bench, and Randy Bench. Robby is also survived by a host of loving uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, and countless friends who will deeply miss him.
A true child of the outdoors, Robby was always drawn to the wilderness, spending countless hours adventuring through his cherished mountains and exploring the quiet beauty of nearby rivers. It was in these serene spaces that he felt most alive and at peace. His mother Joan, however, found very little "serenity" worrying about his safety and whereabouts as he often slipped away without telling her. Ultimately, it was within the beauty of these mountains that Robby gained his personal testimony and love for his Savior.
During his childhood, Robby spent quality time with family and friends vacationing at Disneyland, going on camping trips, and water skiing at Lake Powell and Starvation Reservoir. His life was enriched by the many close relationships he cultivated. He cherished watching BYU games with his stepfather Tom, sharing his passion for guns with his dear friend Scott, and nurturing a spiritual connection with his uncle Glen. He equally treasured the time spent with his nephews, Trint and Brody, serving as a mentor as they explored all things nature and bonded over a special, shared love for music.
Robby was proud to be a Mighty Viking of Pleasant Grove High School. His teenage years ignited a new set of passions; he cherished hunting trips with his father and discovered a profound love for rock music. After school, the sounds of Black Sabbath often blasted from his bedroom stereo. This passion followed him into his early twenties, where he lived his rock and roll dream as the lead singer of Magic Host. When he wasn't on stage, he fed his "need for speed" tearing up the streets on his motorcycles or hot-rodding in his beloved blue Chevy Nova.
Robby was a highly skilled welder and equipment manager, known for his diligent work ethic and quality craftsmanship. He notably joined the budding Condie Construction Company, where he grew alongside the business for a dedicated twenty-five years of service. He was highly respected by all, but his time there was most defined by the deep connections he shared with the Condie family and fellow employees-a true 'work family' whom he cherished from the moment he met them.
Robby shared an important chapter of his life with his first wife, the late Tammy Bench. They were blessed with three children, Dustin (Morgen) Kimbrough, the late Cody Kimbrough, and Bodi (Franco) Pina. Robby shared his passion for adventure with his family. He took them fishing on his boat, camping and hiking in the mountains, and tubing in the winter months. Together they built lifelong memories in the wilderness. He adored hunting rabbits, diggin' in the hills, and exploring trails on dirt bikes and snowmobiles. His trucks, including 'old blue' and his Toyota Tacoma, were essential partners in many memorable adventures. He later married Tracie Shaw Bench, with whom he shared eleven years. They enjoyed their time together working in the yard, eating home-cooked meals and traveling to places Robby loved.
Robby was blessed with nine grandchildren that he adored: Cleopatra, Tyus, Athena, Sylas, Elias, Briella, Jayden, Makaius, and Saegan. Even while enduring a courageous four-year battle with esophageal cancer, Robby remained the hero in his grandchildren's eyes. Despite his illness, he fulfilled a heartfelt dream: passing down his knowledge and love of shooting guns and strumming guitars. Today, his cherished hunting knives, guns, and guitars stand as precious gifts from Grandpa-symbols of his enduring love. As his grandchildren say, "his music filled the air with love and laughter."
Surrounded by his loving family, and soothed by the sounds of his favorite music, Robby took his final breath. In that peaceful moment, embraced by those who cherished him most, he was gently called home. He will be greatly missed, forever remembered, and eternally loved.
Robby constantly remarked how much his family and friends carried him through his last four years. He was and will always remain a hero in all of our hearts. The family extends heartfelt thanks to those who supported Robby during his time living with cancer. We are grateful for the exceptional doctors, surgeons, nurses, and staff at Mountain Point Hospital and Utah Valley Hospital. They provided comfort and compassionate care to Robby and his family during his final moments on this earthly journey.
We invite all who knew and loved Robby to join us in honoring his memory. Viewing will be held on Friday December 19, 2025 at 10:00 AM followed by funeral services at 12:00 PM at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, in Orem, UT. Burial will follow at Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem, Utah.
