Obituary published on Legacy.com by Olpin Family Mortuary on Feb. 3, 2026.
In loving memory of our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and friend, Nyle T. Harris of Lindon, Utah, passed away at the age of 97 on February 1, 2026, at his home, surrounded by family.
Nyle was born May 23, 1928, in
Wallsburg, Utah, to Ralph Harris and Thelma Taylor. He is survived by his seven children, whom he lovingly referred to as the Magnificent Seven: Nikki Roundy, Jeffrey (Cherie) Harris, Kelly (Brett) Bezzant, Toni (Dale) Wright, Cheryl (Alan) Holdaway, Mark (Kim) Harris, and Tanya (Paul) Jarvis; 37 grandchildren, 103 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his dear wife Edith Jean, granddaughter Kylee Bezzant, grandson-in-law Bret Blakey, and great-grandson Hyrum Hatch.
As an only child, Nick grew up during the Depression and lived on the family farm. At an early age he developed a strong work ethic by completing his daily chores, milking cows by hand, feeding livestock, cutting firewood, and helping his parents care for crops and their family garden. Nick enjoyed spending time with his cousins playing football and basketball, but his loyal companion, confidant, and brother was his shepherd dog named Ted. One amusing story of Nick and Ted's adventures involved Nick using hand shears and cutting Ted's hair to make him look like a lion, then finishing off the look with lipstick, painting his lip's red. Ted was humiliated.
Nick attended Lindon Elementary School and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, class of 1946. He was a gifted athlete who loved playing softball and basketball. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Western Canada from 1948 to 1950. Shortly after his return, he married his sweetheart, Edith Jean Walker, on November 29, 1950, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They celebrated 70 years of marriage together.
Nick loved his work, for 35 years, as a lineman for Utah Power and Light, but he was always a farmer at heart and loved working his land and animals. For many years he raised a large and beautiful garden, which was second to none, and he loved sharing fresh produce with family and friends. He could often be seen working in the garden, driving a horse and buggy around the block, or plowing snow for the neighborhood with his 1948, Ford 8 tractor. Nick found happiness in the simple pleasures of life: daily living, joyfully serving others, going on dates with Jean, and spending time with his large family, which he loved dearly. He loved horse riding in the mountains and enjoyed classic country music, so much that he and Jean attended the Bar-J Wranglers Chuckwagon Show, in Jackson Hole Wyoming, for 35 years.
Nick was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings, including bishop, high councilor, and the stake presidency. Nick and Jean served together as missionaries in the Philippines, Cebu Mission, from 1994 to 1995. He served as an ordinance worker in the Mount Timpanogos Temple for 15 years.
Nick will be remembered as a man of integrity and generosity, with a gregarious and friendly nature. He always had a story to tell, a laugh to share, a word of encouragement, an antidote, or advice to give. It was rare to see him without a cheerful smile. He truly lived by his personal philosophy of facing each day with enthusiasm and energy.
The family expresses sincere appreciation for the hospice care workers, Marleen Oaks, Becky Nelson, and Lolly Cardenas.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 9, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Lindon 19th Ward chapel; 731 East Center Street, Lindon, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:00 - 10:30am prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Lindon City Cemetery.
