Charlotte R. Bodurtha
1933-2025
Agawam
Charlotte R. (Herdendorf) Bodurtha, 92, of Harvey Johnson Drive, entered into eternal rest on her 73rd wedding anniversary, Saturday, June 14, 2025.
Charlotte was born and raised in Wisconsin, and moved to Agawam during High School, where she met the love of her life, John H. ("Jack") Bodurtha. They were married on June 14, 1952, and were inseparable until Jack's passing in 2019.
She was proud of her employment at the Springfield Gas Company when she was a young woman and concluded her long working career at Reynolds Accounting.
In her younger years Charlotte was active in the Agawam Junior Woman's Club, and she was engaged in the St. John's the Evangelist Woman's Guild for all of her adult life; she had served as President of both organizations. She was always involved in her children's activities while they were growing up, and many in Agawam may remember her as their cub scout den mother.
She and Jack loved being outdoors, and they both enjoyed gardening and the beach. Although she liked to travel to new places, her favorite vacation by far was the annual two-week vacation at Misqamicut Beach, Rhode Island, surrounded by her family, which she never once missed in over 60 years. Many a late night were spent around the table in Misqamicut playing her favorite card, dice, and board games.
Charlotte enjoyed knitting and cross stitching, and she lovingly designed and hand-knitted her signature Christmas stockings for generations of family members. You knew you were truly part of her family when you were presented with your personalized Christmas stocking to hang on the mantle or place under the tree.
She was one of the most friendly and giving people you could hope to meet, and she is already sadly missed.
Charlotte is survived by her beloved children Michael J. Bodurtha and his wife Donna of Agawam, David R. Bodurtha and his wife Elizabeth of Ayer, James K. Bodurtha and his wife Deborah of West Springfield, and Susan M. Bodurtha of Aspen, Colorado. She also leaves her cherished sister, best friend, and favorite Yahtzee partner Loretta M. Piper of Westfield. She leaves to carry on her legacy her cherished four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and their children. Charlotte was predeceased by her parents and siblings, and by her son-in-law Jerry D. Smith of Aspen, Colorado.
Visitation with her family will be held Thursday June 19,2025 from 9 A.M. until 10 A.M. followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at St. John the Evangelist Church at 11 A.M. Committal will be held privately. For those wishing to remember Charlotte in a special way the family suggests donations be made to
Shriners Hospitals for Children 516 Carew Street Springfield 01104.
