Charlotte Jean (Goochey) Johnson, 85, of Pine River, MN passed away on February 18, 2025. She was born on October 22, 1939, in Pine River, MN to Charles “Earl” and Marion “Amie” (Erickson) Goochey.
While attending Pine River High School, she met her sweetheart, Merlin Johnson. They were married on June 28, 1958, and were married for 66 years.
Charlotte had a heart for church and missions work. She started the nursery ministry at Riverview Tabernacle in Pine River, helped with many other children's and women's ministries, and worked several years as the church secretary. She and Merlin served as short-term missionaries in Bolivia with World Gospel Mission. She also spent many years volunteering at the local Food Shelf.
She had many gifts and hobbies. Hospitality; if you were passing through the area, there was always a bed made up and food on the table. Sewing, needlework, and crafts; her creations filled her house and the houses of family and friends. The quilts she made for all her grandchildren provided many more “squares” to be embroidered. Green thumb; she enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and always had a house filled with plants. Cooking and baking; a question she heard often was “can I get the recipe for this?”. Birding; the birds outside her windows were always very well-fed and enjoyed.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Edith; husband, Merlin; son, Rod; sister, Barb Burk; stepbrothers, Lee, Pete, Norbert, Cliff, and Galen Filsmeyer.
She will be dearly missed by her sisters, Carol Johnson and Dorothy (Al) Prigge; brothers Duane (Chris) Goochey, Darrel (Barb) Goochey, and Kenny (Debbie) Goochey; stepsisters, Geraldine Zrust and Patricia (Bob) McCall; daughter-in-law, Kathy; sons, Gene (Angie), Donnie (Shelley) and Jeff (Holly), as well as 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Charlotte's family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Good Samaritan Society Woodland in Brainerd, MN for their kindness, loving care, and support during her time there.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 3 PM at Riverview Church, 310 Norway Ave, Pine River, MN 56474. There will be a visitation held one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to World Gospel Mission, PO Box 948, Marion, IN 46952-0948 https://wgm.org/
