Charlotte Spong Obituary
Services for Charlotte will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, MN with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Luncheon to follow at the Oklee Inn. Burial will be held at Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Oklee, MN.
Charlotte Sylvia Spong was born on November 20, 1937 daughter of Alvin Clifford and Myrtle Sylvia (Ostgarden) Waldal at Plummer, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer. She attended school in Plummer, graduating with the class of 1955.
On November 26, 1955 Charlotte was united in marriage to George Spong at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN. To this union six children were born Jim, Pam, Cheryl, Scott, Mark and Kevin. The couple made their permanent home near Oklee in 1962. They moved to Texas in 1982 and later moved to Paso Robles, CA where she worked as a manager at a dry cleaner. May of 2016, they returned to Oklee where they have since resided.
Charlotte throughout her life was a very hard worker. She enjoyed going for coffee on her way to work making close meaningful relationships with restaurant staff. Charlotte's vacation time was always spent in Minnesota catching up with family. She enjoyed her visits and lake time during these vacations. Most of all she loved the time spent with family and friends.
Charlotte is survived by her loving husband of 69 years George; children Jim (Pam) Spong; Pam (Bob) O'Neill; Cheryl (Les) O'Neill; Suellen Spong; Mark (Holly) Spong and Kevin Spong; grandchildren Heather (David) Molesworth, Melissa Spong, Ashley (Jeremy) Benson, Jessie (Nathan) Pederson, Katie (Mark) Lorenson, Sarah (Nate) Lundeen, Angie (Todd) Knott, Suzanne O'Neill, Patrick (Jenny) O'Neill, Logan (Abby) O'Neill, Angie (Mike) Torres, Marisa (Metodi) Dinolov, Amanda (Steve) Nelson, Jessica (Adam) Rock, Brianna (Cody) Trontvedt: 36 Great-grandchildren: siblings Jane Hinrichs, Paul (Kathy) Waldal, John (Lori) Waldal: in-law's Esther (Homer) Saetre, Larry Spong, Dale (Susan) Spong and Gary Spong; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Beverly Waldal; son Scott Spong; nephew Andy Waldal; niece Shawna Waldal; in-law's Ernie Spong and Earl Spong, Norma Spong.
