Cherie E. (Poskus) Gilbert, a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by her family, whose love and laughter she cherished deeply throughout her life.
Cherie grew up with a gentle spirit and a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. From an early age, she was drawn to animals-especially horses-and found peace and happiness in caring for them. Her love of all living things extended to every pet, flower, and wild creature that crossed her path.
Cherie married the love of her life, John Gilbert, and over the 35 years together, they built a home filled with warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion. She was a proud and nurturing mother to her 4 children, always offering endless support, encouragement, and unconditional love. Her family was her greatest joy. Whether attending high school football games, weekend lacrosse games, attending high school concert choir or helping to build school projects, she took pride in celebrating every milestone, big and small.
A woman of many talents, Cherie was endlessly creative-crafting beautiful things with her hands and her heart. Whether she was arranging flowers, crocheting, carving pumpkins for Halloween or decorating the Christmas Tree (her two favorite holidays), or making something special for her loved ones, she brought light and laughter to every moment. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew her.
Cherie's courage throughout her battle with breast cancer was an inspiration. She faced each day with grace and optimism, finding beauty and positivity even in difficult times and reminding everyone around her to do the same.
Beloved wife of John Gilbert; proud and devoted mother of Jessica Bessett, Joshua Bessett and wife Alicia, Jordan Gilbert, Sarina Gilbert; loving Grandmother of Brantley Farrington; her siblings, Richard Smith, Derek Poskus and wife Carol, Craig Poskus, her mother, Janet Poskus; her Uncle Billy Smith and Auntie Liz, Dear friend of EJ Nocon and the late Debra Best, Kenneth and Rene Worden, Kim (Anderson) Borgotti, Lynn Johansen-Carew and many cousins, nieces and nephews who will forever hold her close in their hearts and her "Good Boys!", horses Zeppelin & Brego.
Cherie's love, laughter, and gentle spirit will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she is no longer with us, the beauty she brought into the world will live on forever.
