It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Cherlyn Brooke. She passed away February 13, 2026, in Columbia, MO. Devoted homemaker whose love and warmth shaped the lives of all that knew her.
She married Jimmie Brooke on December 31st,1965 in Dike, IA. She dedicated her life to caring for her family while creating a home filled with comfort and unwavering support. As a homemaker she understood the simplest acts, home cooked meals, late night conversations, and warm embraces were often the ones that mattered the most. Her home was not just a place but a feeling of safety.
She had a true gift of gab. She could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. Before long they would feel like an old friend. Her stories, laughter, and ability to truly listen made people feel seen and valued. She never met a stranger, only friends she hadn’t yet met.
Known as one of the sweetest people you could ever meet, she had a heart that knew no limits. She would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Never hesitating to help, comfort, or encourage. Her generosity was not measured in grand gestures but in everyday kindness, such as meals shared, hands held, and countless quiet acts of compassion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Brooke; her parents, Henry and Averial Kellum; and three brothers, Dale, Bruce, and Roger Kellum.
Cherlyn is survived by her daughters; Beth Wilson (Mark) of Moberly, MO and Gail Brooke of Evansville, IN. Her sisters; Ilene Miller of Des Moines, IA and Zatha Hughbanks (Crosby) of Cedar Falls, IA. Also, her brother Mike Kellum (Jan) of Allison, IA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Bret Wilson (Jenny), Blake Wilson (Alyssa), Brooke Wilson, Alex Peterson, and Andrew Peterson alongside her cherished 14 great-grandchildren: Clara Mitchell, Chip Wilson, Jack Wilson, Penny Wilson, Vivian Wilson, Millie Wilson, Dollie Wilson, Fletcher Wilson, Wrigley Wilson, Jordyn Peterson, Callie Peterson, Journey Peterson, Abigail Peterson, and Logan Peterson.
Her love was her legacy. It lives on in the family she nurtured, friendships she cherished, and the many lives she touched simply by being herself. Though our hearts ache in her absence, we are forever grateful for the time we had and the love she so freely gave. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
Visitation for Cherlyn will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. with a celebration of life beginning at 11:00 a.m. Services will be held at Mount Shiloh Baptist Church, Darksville, Missouri.
