Cheryl Ann (Bear) Brothers was born February 12, 1962, in Fairfax, Oklahoma to Constance Josephine Daniels-Bishop and Benjamin Joseph Burnett. Her paternal grandparents are Benjamin L. Burnett and Helen Osage, and her maternal grandparents are George Daniels and Judy P. St. John and Pierce St. John. Cheryl Anne is of Osage, Iowa, and Potawatomi descent, is from Grayhorse District and in Deer Clan. Her Osage name is Hon-pe Doka, meaning Wet Moccasins. Cheryl loved being Osage and participated in various cultural activities throughout her life, also traveling the powwow trail for years. She loved to laugh and tell stories, was always kind, and had a smile. She worked hard at whatever she did and despite the curve's life threw her, she made ways. As a child, she grew up in Fairfax, Pawhuska, and Tulsa, graduating from Memorial High School in 1980. Cheryl was married to Myron Red Eagle for sixteen years, and then to Sam Brothers for twenty years. She spent her life in Pawhuska, raising her children and she enjoyed helping coach and watching them play athletics. She also loved music, dancing, and cooking. Her grandchildren were filled with joy seeing her and she delighted in them. Cheryl was preceded in death by her father Benjamin J. Burnett, her sister Helen Mae Burnett, and son Abram Burnett Bear. She leaves behind her mother Connie and Cliff Bishop, her husband Samuel Lee Brothers, a son Benjamin Joseph Bear, and grandsons Carter Jerrod McCorvey and Colton Clifford Bear, as well as her daughter Constance Anne "Josney" Bear and grandchildren Jacey Lynn Bear, Joseph Wiegman V, Pendleton Strike Ax Bear, Benjamin Daniel Bear, and Shania Anne Bear. She will lie in state at her family home and be laid to rest at the Bear family cemetery in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on Friday, August 29, with traditional Native service beginning at 9 a.m. and graveside services to follow.
