With sadness and love we announce the passing of our beloved Niece, Friend, and Aunt Cheryl Gartin at the age of 68. Born with a congenital heart defect, she was among the first to undergo open-heart surgery, defying the odds with strength and resilience. Despite lifelong health challenges, her heart was full of love, faith, and always, hope. She took every illness or surgery as an opportunity to thank Jesus for helping her through and giving her another day.
Cheryl and her mother Pat, aka Granny, were inseparable, as Cheryl never married or had children of her own. Instead, she devoted herself to her two nieces with unwavering care and affection. Her stability, warmth, humor and unconditional love lifted up all those around her, but especially her brother's daughters who needed a guardian (angel)! After Granny's passing, Cheryl found new independence, strength and friendships, growing in inspiring and unexpected ways!
Her legacy of kindness, faith, and selflessness will forever remain in our hearts and in the hearts of the many children she served during her life. She taught third grade for many years at La Mesa Christian School and taught Sunday School her entire life. Her warm smile, tenacity, infectious laugh, generosity, passion for crafts, and penny-saving ways will leave all those who knew her with joyful memories and a feeling of God's profound grace. We take comfort in knowing she is reunited with Granny and Poppy, watching over us with love.
She is survived by her two nieces Genevieve Buckley (husband-Caleb) and Jeanie Wright (husband Matt), grand-nephews Luke Buckley and Benjamin Wright, grand-nieces Amelie Gartin and Grace Buckley, and Aunts Peggy Mayes and Laura Schoen. She is preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Patricia Gartin and brother Clarence Joseph Gartin.
Services will be held March 22nd at 2pm at Lighthouse Baptist Church: 1345 Skyline Dr, Lemon Grove, CA 91945
