Cheryl Grayem

"Omi" / "Cher Bear"

January 29, 1949 – September 29, 2025

Cheryl Grayem, affectionately known as "Omi" and "Cher Bear," passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, at the age of 76, in St. Charles, Missouri.

Cheryl was the oldest child of Eugene and Doris Moore. Survived by her sisters Linda Weiss, Debbie Downs and their brother Charles Moore. From a young age, Cheryl had a bit of a wild side. Whether it was having a male suitor at the front door, while another was waiting at the back door, or 'borrowing' her father's car that was definitely not allowed and crashing it attempting to return it in time. She'd sometimes drag her sisters into help with her shenanigans when that was the last thing they wanted to do. The stories of her youth were always so entertaining. Cheryl and her siblings and their families remained close their entire lives, demonstrating how wonderful a large extended family can be. It was nothing but love and we honestly can't recall a single argument our entire life within the family, something that seems to us as rare and very special.

Cheryl was a graduate of Normandy High School where she first met the future love of her life and husband of 52 years, Jim Grayem. They had a picturesque family and incredibly full life together. She was a loving, and often feisty, wife that Jim deeply loved and adored for everything that made Cheryl who she was. Their love story seems reminiscent in ways to the movie "The Notebook."

Cheryl was impactful in helping the family business get on its feet in the early years and later she enjoyed a long and successful career with RBO Logistics, where her strong work ethic, integrity, and warmth left a lasting impact on her colleagues and clients.

A lifelong athlete, Cheryl had a deep love and very competitive spirit with sports-including soccer, softball, racquetball, and later with golf. Her kids' childhood was filled with her supporting or coaching them on the sports field, only to be cheering her on in whatever sport she was playing later that night. In the 1980's when racketball was the rage, Cheryl was a top ranked player in the Saint Louis area. Tim fondly remembers a man furiously leaving the racquetball court and slamming his racket against the wall, then his mother giving him a subtle victory wink as she left the court. She later became a very skilled golfer and a dedicated member of the Whitmoor Country community, where she and Jim made so many amazing friendships.

Cheryl's zest for life was as good as it gets. She brought laughter and joy to everyone around her. She lived for her grandchildren Jaxon, Dylan, Hudson, Hanley and Paige. The greatest tragedy is her not being able to be a part of their lives these last years and as they grow into adults.

To her two sons, Cheryl was more than a loving mother, she was a guiding light. Cheryl was an avalanche of unconditional love, pure dedication and filled our lives with constant laughter with her wicked sense of humor and contagious laugh. She led by example on how to be a strong person that always showed kindness, empathy, and optimism. Her ability to see the good in others was instinctive and rare. She authentically made those around her feel seen, valued, and loved. She epitomized being a strong, confident woman and she always looked out for other women and those most vulnerable. We could not have asked for a better role model on how to have a life full of love or how to be a good human being than her.

Cheryl's spirit lives on in her family, her friends, and in every act of compassion and joy inspired by her life. She was truly one of a kind.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BrighterFutures.net, a nonprofit that supports women and families in St. Louis. It was started by one of her sons and Cheryl was proud of its mission.
