Cheryl Johnson

Cheryl J. Johnson, née Smith, of Rolling Meadows, IL, passed away on March 7 at the age of 78.

She was born in Chicago on April 18, 1947, to Charles J. Smith and Mavis Smith, née Mirsch. Her beloved husband, Terry Johnson, preceded her in death, as did her dear son, Charles Johnson.

She is survived by her devoted son, Roger Johnson of Chicago; her cherished grandson, Sebastian Johnson of South Bend, IN; her brother, Richard Smith (Paulette) of Fontana, WI; her sister, Karen Smith (James Evans) of Palm Coast, FL; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and their children, all of whom lovingly knew her as "Nana."

A lifelong learner, Cheri graduated from Mercy High School and North Central College. During a long and respected career as a technology professional, she made many meaningful contributions to the IT systems of Northwest Community Hospital, now part of the Endeavor Health network.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Cheri found great joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved to travel, swim, spend treasured time with family and friends, and had a special fondness for her German Shepherds. Remarkably handy and always willing to lend a hand, she was often more capable with a toolbox than most handymen. Her home was always open to those she loved, and she was never hesitant to help someone in need. Cheri will be deeply mourned and dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Memorial Visitation will be Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. with a Memorial Service at 5 P.M. at Smith-Corcoran Palatine Funeral Home located at 185 E.
