Cheryl Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stuart Mortuary, Inc. - Indianapolis on Feb. 5, 2023.
CHERYL was born August 26, 1961 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Mr. Tom Knott and Earnestine Brooks. She attended Indianapolis Public School and worked at Wal-Mart. She was a phenomenal sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, foster mother, cousin and friend. She loved her family and church and she went above and beyond for others. CHERYL was selfless, honest, righteous, and a generous woman who never complained and kept a smile on her face even during her illness. She loved to listen to gospel music, watch television and her favorite food was chicken.
CHERYL accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior over 32 years ago and God blessed her with the Precious Gift of the Holy Ghost. Being led by God, she brought all of her children to church and became faithful and dedicated member uniting with Open Door Church of Deliverance under the Leadership of Bishop Rufus C. Hicks. CHERYL was a recognized on November 24, 2019 as a faithful member to her church; rarely missing a service; including Bible Class and School of Wisdom. She never missed calling Elder Otha Rollins or Deacon Willie Pittman to remind them to pick her up for church; a faithful church van rider. CHERYL was a former member of the Open Door Deliverance Choir, Women's Choir, Women's Ministry, Pastor's Aide Auxiliary, and Hospitality Ministry over 20 years. CHERYL went home to be present with the Lord on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the age of 61 years 5 months and 6 days. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
CHERYL was preceded in death by her parents; Tom Knot Brooks and Earnestine Brooks:
She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories: Her beloved sons her sons, Marcus Brooks, Jerry Brooks, Matthew Northington, Isaiah Poindexter, Christopher Allen, Tasha Murdock; her step-daughters; Catrice Dycus, Deanna Dycus, Ebony Dycus, and Jasmin Gordan; her grandchildren, Brianna Northington, Kenzie Northington, Hayley Conner, Matthew Northington Jr., Miles Northington, Christopher Northington, Tyrese Northington, Amir Williams, Jadon Rose, Ta'mya Allen, and Christine Kimble, and her great grandchildren; brothers, Bernard (Camella) Brooks, Bruce Brooks, Thomas Jones, Brandon Brooks; sisters, Addie Ruth (David) Jennings, Bonny Sue Brooks, Kim Brooks, and Tomyatta Brooks. CHERYL will be greatly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, her Open Door Church Family, and friends.
"Memory is a way of holding on to the things you love, the things you are, and the things you never want to lose."
