Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory - Lake ZurichChester “Chet” Hoover, Jr., 89, of Grayslake, died peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025.
Chet was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on March 14, 1936, to Chester and Mae (nee Gunzenhauser) Hoover. He married Judith Stoner on May 14, 1960, and together they raised their two children, Cathy and David.
Chet will be remembered as a kind and generous person. He offered his knowledge and skills to anyone that asked. During his lifetime he was an Eagle Scout, a Mason and for 53 years an active member and Elder of Long Grove Community Church.
He was a devoted father and grandfather attending school and sporting events to cheer everyone on. He showed up in every aspect of his life.
Chet is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Judith; children, Cathy (John) Arenberg, and David (Shari) Hoover; grandchildren, Ronald (Joanne) Hoover, Christopher (PaChee Yang) Arenberg, Steven (Kayla) Hoover, Matthew Arenberg, Michael Arenberg, and Nicholas Roche; great-grandchildren, Sparrow Hoover, Kinsley Hoover, and Cameron Hoover; and sister, Donna (Martin) McCall.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Caryl Mae Hoover.
Chet’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nursing staff at Warren Barr Buffalo Grove as well as JourneyCare Hospice for their kindness, support and compassionate care for their father.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 5, beginning at 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am at Long Grove Community Church, 1110 Robert Parker Coffin Rd, Long Grove, IL 60047. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Chet’s memory can be made to your favorite charity.
