Chester “Freddie” Haywood Locklear, 82, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.

A funeral service to honor Chester’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 13th at Munden Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Broad Creek Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends the evening prior from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, December 12th at Munden Funeral Home.

Born on July 22, 1943, in Lumberton, NC, Chester will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family and friends. He attended Graham Pentecostal Holiness Church in Mill Creek.

Chester retired from NADEP at Cherry Point, where he took great pride in his work as an aircraft mechanic. His natural ability to understand mechanical systems extended beyond aircraft; he had a talent for working on cars, which was a hobby he thoroughly enjoyed.

Chester was blessed with 62 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Bonnie. Together, they created a beautiful family, and nothing brought him greater happiness than sharing time with his loved ones and of course that included having his dog, Skye, faithfully at his side.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years, Bonnie Locklear; daughters, Melinda Dunn (Jamie) of Newport, NC, Stephanie Locklear of Hubert, NC, and Cherry Gail Locklear of Greenville, NC; son, Thomas Locklear (Kim) of Newport, NC; grandchildren, Danielle Morton (Shahab), Victoria Morton (Zach), Mariah Hart (Jeremy), Sarah Mohr (Ryan), Michael Locklear (Caroline), Justin Locklear (Polly), Briana Stott (Ben), Dallas Locklear, and Nina Denny; and 12 precious great-grandchildren.

Chester was preceded in death by his mother, Eula Mae Locklear; son, Michael Locklear; and siblings, Darlene Taylor, Betty Faye Cummings and Thomas Hall.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome.

Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfuneralhome.net.
