Munden Funeral Home & Crematory - Morehead CityGregory Drake Guthrie, 76, of Hubert, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at The Landings of Swansboro.
A graveside service to honor Gregory's life will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 28th at Bethlehem Methodist Church Cemetery, officiated by Chaplain June Bell-Bruns. The family will receive friends following the service.
Gregory was born on December 28, 1949, in Jacksonville, NC, to the late Tommie Jerome Guthrie and Juanita Lisk Guthrie. He was a graduate of Swansboro High School, Class of 1967, and shortly thereafter honorably served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1967 to 1971.
Following his military service, Gregory pursued a distinguished career as a Senior Information Technology Analyst with the United States Government, where he served from 1997 until his retirement in 2020. He was known for his professionalism, dedication, and strong work ethic throughout his career. In retirement, Gregory made his home in Hubert, where he enjoyed a quieter pace of life.
Proud of his family's legacy, Gregory's maternal grandfather, McNeely Lisk, served as mayor of Swansboro from 1944 to 1961, helping guide the town through a period of growth and change. On his paternal side, his grandfather, Thomas Hubert Guthrie Jr., played a unique role in local history by supplying mullet for the very first Swansboro Mullet Festival, which began during Mayor Lisk's tenure.
Those remaining include his children, Katjana Marie Schweiss of Virginia Beach, VA, Duncan MacGregor Guthrie of Virginia Beach, VA and David Jerome Brooks of Tarrytown, NY; brothers, Mike Guthrie (Margaret) of Pine Knoll Shores, NC and Bruce Guthrie (Penny) of Hubert, NC; and 8 wonderful grandchildren.
Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfuneralhome.net.
