William Olai Underseth

SWANSBORO - William Olai Underseth, 89, of Swansboro, passed away Monday, January 27,2025 at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern, NC. He was born April 24,1935, in Wilmington, NC. William "Billy" grew up in Swansboro NC, son of the late Olai Andrias and Mary Privett Underseth.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Ward Cemetery in Swansboro with Rev. Keith Wall officiating.
Bill was a graduate of Swansboro High School class of 1953 and received his Batchelor of Science degree from ECU in 1957. He retired after a 30-year career as a state auditor.
Upon retirement, he enjoyed traveling the United States with his wife of 62 years and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed his hometown of Swansboro, NC and prior to becoming physically unable to continue the upkeep of his homeplace, he could be seen cutting grass, chopping wood or walking to Yana's for breakfast.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice Marie Mason Underseth; sister-in-law, Margaret Slate; and niece Barbara Wright.
He is survived by daughter Annette Underseth Lab (Gary) of Lillington, NC; son Andy Underseth (Janet) of Swansboro, NC; grandson, Cameron Morton Underseth; granddaughter, Allison Grace Underseth; and a nephew, Warren Slate.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 - 8 PM at Jones Funeral Home, Swansboro Chapel.
