Chester Dale “C.D.” Wilson, age 76, formerly of Tannery Hollow Road, Moorefield, WV passed away Thursday morning, October 13, 2022, at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Crystal Springs (formerly Nellas’s) in Elkins, WV. Born on April 7, 1946, in Moorefield, WV, he was the son of the late Odessa Catherine Hose Wilson and Dale Albert Wilson. He was preceded in death by his wife 39 years, Barbara Alice Wilson in March 2009. Two sisters, Hartzelle E. Hinkle and Wilda L. George also preceded him in death.
Chester was a 1964 graduate of Moorefield High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Navy reserve, having served on the USS Fulton, AS-11. He held various jobs over the years, including construction and as a truck driver. He most recently had driven for Chris Alt Trucking until retirement.
Chester was a 50 plus year member of the Union Lodge # 31, A.F. & A.M. in Niantic, CT, a member of the V.F.W. Post #15011 in Macon, GA; a member of the John M. Golliday Post #64 American Legion, Moorefield, WV; Lifetime member of the Hardy County Voiture #1623, 40 & 8 and the D.A.V.; a member of the Moorefield Church of the Brethren.
Surviving is a sister-in-law, Wilda (Dwain) Rinker of Purgitsville, WV; numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece, Connie Fraley and husband Jay who has assisted in his care since 2018.
Funeral Services will be conducted 12:00 PM Monday, October 17, 2022 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street with Pastors Russel & Lucy Webster officiants. Interment will follow with Military graveside Rites accorded by the U.S. Navy and the Moorefield Veteran’s Honor Guard in the Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM Monday until time of services. Due to the current COVID-19 recommendations, wearing of masks and social distancing by individuals unvaccinated is recommended.
The family would like to thank Chester’s caregivers while he was at home, especially Betty Myers, and the staff of Autumn Lake Healthcare.
